Northwest High School principal Scott Smith sent a letter to the community informing them that the school is in a “modified shelter” due to an anonymous threat made via social media. At this time, it is not believed that the threat is credible, but Montgomery County Police is on-sight as a precaution. Full letter can be seen below:
“Dear Northwest High School Students, Families and Staff,
We are reaching out to inform you all of an anonymous social media threat that was made toward Northwest High School earlier today. At this time, we believe the threat is non-credible but Montgomery County Police are on-sight as a precautionary measure and to ensure optimal safety and security.
Out of an abundance of caution, we are in a modified shelter which means instruction and regular operations continue. We have, however, decided to keep all students inside during lunch as an elevated measure. All students who have a half-day schedule can leave campus as usual and any students who must leave for already scheduled appointments, etc can proceed as usual.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Northwest’s main office at (240) 740-7100.
Sincerely,
Scott E. Smith, Principal”
