The MoCoShow Game of the Week: DeMatha at Good Counsel (Preview & Prediction)

This Friday will be a showdown between the undefeated 6-0 DeMatha Stags and the 5-1 Good Counsel Falcons. Going into last year’s meeting between these two teams, Good Counsel was riding high, outscoring WCAC opponents 87-7 and looking like the favorite to win the WCAC… but DeMatha had other plans, winning the game 28-14 and dominating Good Counsel in the trenches.
This year’s matchup has big playoff implications. Whoever wins this matchup is likely to secure the #1 seed in the WCAC playoffs and punch their ticket to the WCAC championship. DeMatha looks to shut down the Good Counsel running game by keeping their linebackers in the tackle box, forcing Good Counsel to throw the ball. DeMatha ran for over 200 yards and 3 touchdowns on Good Counsel last year and looks to do that again this year by spreading out Good Counsel’s elite edge defenders and utilizing pulling guards and H backs to dominate Good Counsel’s linebackers. Good Counsel looks to stop the DeMatha run game by positioning linebacker Aaron Chiles and safety Faheem Delane, the #1 senior and #1 junior in the state of Maryland, at the point of attack to stuff DeMatha’s run game. Good Counsel looks to take advantage of their great run game by forcing DeMatha to commit to stopping the run and taking advantage of that by targeting mismatches in the passing game.
This game will be a battle for the title of the best team in the WCAC.  If you want to see two of the best teams in the state of Maryland, come down to Old Vic, stop by Carl’s Corner, and enjoy the game this Friday night! Prediction: Good Counsel by 3
