The 4th Great Montgomery County Bike Summit takes place Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2023 at the Wheaton Library and Recreation Center, 11701 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20902, organized by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA). Media representatives are invited and may register via the summit Web page, waba.org/MoCoSummit2023.
This free event will advance the cause of safe biking for all across Montgomery County. It will bring together policy-makers and advocates for presentations and panel discussion, charting progress toward building out the network of trails and protected bicycling lanes and meeting the county’s and State of Maryland’s Vision Zero commitments.
The summit program starts at 1:15 pm with a keynote by Montgomery County Councilmember Natali Fani-González, speaking on Safe Streets for All. Four sessions follow:
-
How Maryland Can Make Biking Safer and Easier, with senior State Highway Administration and Maryland DOT officials
-
Building the Capital Trails Network
-
A Bike Friendly Montgomery County, with Montgomery County Department of Transportation and Montgomery Planning officials
-
Effective Advocacy, a panel that includes Dan Langenkamp, whose wife Sarah was crushed by a truck last year while bicycling on River Road
The Maryland segment will launch WABA’s Complete State Roads initiative, which has been generously supported by funding from the Langenkamp Family and the Bega Memorial Fund for Bicycling Safety. The summit will run until 5 pm.
