DMV Native Chop Robinson Projected By Many As First Round Pick in 2024 NFL Draft

Chop Robinson, a 6’3, 253 pound Defensive End for the Penn State Nittany Lions, watched his current team beat his previous team as Penn State rolled through Maryland 51-15 on Saturday. Robinson, a Quince Orchard High School graduate and Gaithersburg native who owns his high school’s sack record, was injured two weeks ago against Ohio State, and wasn’t able to play in the last two games, including Saturday’s game against Maryland. The now-Penn State standout is having a great season for the 8-1 Nittany Lions, with five tackles for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble on the season, and hopes to return next week against Michigan. Many analysts and draft experts currently have Robinson going in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Last year, Robinson was selected All-Big Ten honorable mention by the coaches and media, named a Pro Football Focus All-Big Ten second team selection, and earned the team’s Reid Robinson Outstanding Defensive Lineman Award with Adisa Isaac. Appearing in 12 games as a sophomore, he posted 26 tackles (19 solo), 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two pass breakups, three quarterback hurries, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. Prior to the start of this season, Robinson earned preseason second-team All-American honors and was named to the Bednarik Award, Lombardi Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch lists prior to the start of the season.

In high school, Robinson player for Coach John Kelley at Quince Orchard High School. While there he helped lead the Quince Orchard Cougars to a combined record of 25-2 in 2018 and 2019. Quince Orchard won a state title in 2018, picking up a 40-33 victory over North Point to with the 4A title and going 13-1 overall. The team reached the state semifinals in 2019, posting a 12-1 record. The Cougars had a stretch of 22 consecutive wins from 2018 to 2019 and Robinson was named an Under Armour All-American and a 2019 All-Met selection. He finished his high school football career breaking the school sack record, with 85 tackles (61 solo),14 sacks, three forced fumbles and one interception during his Junior campaign alone. Robinson was a consensus four-star recruit by On3, 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN and was the top-ranked player in the state of Maryland according to ESPN, ranked 35th nationally.

Robinson committed to the University of Maryland and attended the school during his freshman year. While at Maryland, in 2021, he was named an ESPN Midseason True Freshman All-American. Robinson played in all 13 games, making one start. During his true freshman season, he totaled 19 tackles (12 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks. Following his freshman year, he made the decision to transfer to Penn State where he has become a dominant force. CBS Sports projects Robinson going at #15 to the Tennessee Titans in their latest mock draft, Walter Football has him going 25th to the Seattle Seahawks, and Pro Football Network has him going 14th to the Los Angeles Chargers.
