“Clarksburg Students, Staff, and Families,

This is by far one of the most difficult letters to write to what I consider my extended family. It is with mixed emotions that announce my decision to retire as the Principal of Clarksburg High School, effective January 1, 2024. This decision comes after much introspection and family discussion. Having my own mother be my first head start teacher, in the home as well as the school house, I have been enamored with the belief that by intellectual pursuit, faith, and family, it is possible to be better and do better.

I have had the privilege of serving as the Principal of Clarksburg High School since July of 2017 and fortunate to work with a dedicated team of cluster administrators, educators, staff members, students, and parents who have all contributed to the exceptional learning environment that our school has become.

Together, we have achieved numerous milestones, fostered a culture of inclusivity, and witnessed the growth and development of countless students.

I am immensely proud of the accomplishments we have achieved together, including the growth of our Advanced Placement, P-Tech, & Dual Enrollment Programs; 96.2% Graduation Rate (positive gains every year for the last 6 years), local and national recognition of amazing students and staff, and the overall strengthening of our school structure and culture. These achievements are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaboration of the entire school community.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the teachers and staff, whose unwavering commitment to our students has been truly inspiring. To the students, thank you for your enthusiasm and for reminding me every day of the incredible potential that lives within each of you. To the parents and guardians, your support and involvement in your children’s education have been invaluable and greatly appreciated.

I look forward to the next chapter, which will include spending more time with my family, pursuing personal interests, and staying busy on the educational front. As my tenure comes to a close, I am confident that the school community will continue to thrive and grow under the guidance of a new Principal. I am committed to working closely with our MCPS Office of School Support and Well Being and my successor to ensure a smooth transition and provide any necessary assistance during this period.

Please know that my retirement does not mark the end of my commitment to education, and I will continue supporting the field in any way I can. I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the Principal of Clarksburg High School, and I leave with a deep sense of pride in our shared accomplishments.

Thank you once again for the wonderful years. am excited to see the continued success of Clarksburg High School, and I will always be a proud member of this exceptional community.

Continue to Be Good and Do Good.

Respectfully,

Edward Owusu”
