Brush Fire is The Cause For Smell of Smoke in Derwood/Rockville Area Thursday Morning

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) units responded to a call for a brush fire (approximately one acre) on the 15600 block of Needwood Lake Circle in Derwood.

According to Assistant Chief David Pazos, the brush fire is in the area of the Lake Needwood Dam. No residences are affected by the fire, but a haze has been reported in the Avery Rd/Needwood Lake Dr area. Multiple readers have reported smelling smoke in Derwood and as far out as 355 in Rockville.

MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer added that the fire is in a remote area near the gravel trail off of the spillway parking lot. Log piles and grassy area are involved’in thebfire.
