Montgomery County Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MFRS) responded to an incident at the Arrive Silver Spring apartments on Monday, November 20.

According to police, “At approximately 7:23 a.m., MCPD off-duty officers were in the 8750 block of Georgia Avenue when they witnessed a person breaking a window in the building. The officers knocked on the door in an attempt to make contact with the individual. The officers smelled smoke and determined that the individual had set a fire and barricaded himself inside the apartment. Fire rescue was contacted. MCPD made entry into the apartment and was able to put out the fire. A 32-year-old male was located inside of the apartment and taken into custody.”

According to MCFRS Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the small fire was extinguished and there were no injuries reported. Police are working with the fire marshals on appropriate charges and criminal charges are pending. We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.
