Metro is getting into the holiday spirit this season with a new pop-up market and a specially wrapped gingerbread train and buses.

Per WMATA: Our “First Stop” holiday shop will feature Metro t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks, holiday cards, wrapping paper, ornaments, toy buses, umbrellas, shower curtains, and more. The shop will be open daily from Nov. 25 to Dec. 17 on the first floor of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in downtown DC.You’ll find gifts for kids, adults, out-of-town visitors, and transit enthusiasts alike. Some of our favorite items include a t-shirt featuring our soaring brutalist station ceilings, socks that resemble the pylons outside Metro Center and Gallery Place, and our best-selling black tee with the train line symbols.

Holiday items include special-edition shirts like “fa la la la la L’Enfant Plaza” a red “ho ho go” sweatshirt, and one featuring ornaments that look like our train line symbols. We’ve also got holiday cards with our gingerbread bus, transit-themed wrapping paper, and Metro ornaments.

Metro turns buses, train into tasty gingerbread wonderland

holiday wraps A train and four buses will turn into the sweetest ride of the season in December when Metro rolls out vehicles in a gingerbread motif to celebrate the season. The vehicles will be decorated inside and out with candy canes, lollipops, gumdrops, red bows, gingerbread men, and more accouterments that make for a fancy gingerbread “house.” (Just don’t try to eat them).

“Metro is an integral part of our community, and we take pride in being part of the holidays and special events,” Metro General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke said. “We hope our gingerbread-themed train and buses bring a smile to everyone’s face as they travel around the region for shopping, visiting family and friends, and attending holiday events.”

You’ll be able to find the train and buses on our live tracker at wmata.com/live when they launch in December. Two buses will be assigned on DC routes and one each on a Virginia and Maryland route.

This marks one year since Metro has begun to wrap trains and buses for special occasions like Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Earth Day, the Cherry Blossom Festival, Pride month, Fourth of July, Veterans Day, and more.
