When Megha Shaffer’s four-year-old got a little too rough with her eight-year-old daughter’s teddy bear, she turned to a local Montgomery County “mom group” on Facebook for help (photos below).
Shaffer posted a picture of the “injured” teddy bear and explained that the bear’s neck was now loose after the rough morning. Fellow group member and MoCo resident Mary Ann Glassic came to the rescue. Glassic, who teaches the “You Too Can Sew” for children and adults, replied that she can fit the teddy bear in for “emergency surgery” the same afternoon.
Glassic explained that “Every day for a stuffed bear can be tricky. Some days you just sit around and some days your are minding your own business and your HEAD is torn right off!” The bear was brought over and Glassic asked for the eight-year-old to don a coat and stethoscope and assist with the delicate surgery.
The surgery was a success! Not only was Glassic able to repair the bear’s neck, she also did a little work on its paw and made the bear “look happy”, per the eight-year-old’s request during surgery. Megha Shaffer posted an update thanking Mary Ann, affectionately known as “Doc McStuffins.” The bear is recovering well and resting on her daughter’s lap.
