Judge Issues Maximum Sentence in Rockville Stabbing Attacks

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable John Maloney has sentenced defendant, Scorpio Alexander Stanfield, 33, of unknown address, to 65 years in prison. The sentencing hearing was held Friday evening, December 1st, 2023.

On Thursday, May 25, 2023, a jury convicted Stanfield of second-degree murder for the death of 35-year-old Jonathan Lawrence Moore of Silver Spring. On Monday, May 22, 2023, a separate jury convicted Stanfield of first-degree assault for the non-fatal stabbing of an adult male. The stabbings occurred on Saturday, September 3rd, 2022 on Hungerford Dr. in Rockville. Officers with Rockville City Police and Montgomery County Police arrived at the 700 block of Hungerford Dr. at approximately 9:55p.m. for a report of a stabbing. They located man suffering from a stab wound who provided a description of the suspect. That victim was transported to the hospital and survived.

Officers located the suspect, later identified as Stanfield, in the area and arrested him. While investigating the crime scene, they discovered a man seated in his vehicle in the 800 block of Hungerford Dr., suffering from a stab wound. This man was later identified as Jonathan Lawrence Moore. Moore succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This defendant is responsible for terrifying attacks, stabbing people at random on a Rockville street. We are grateful to Assistant State’s Attorneys Lauren Turner and Gabriel Carrera for the successful prosecution of two separate jury trials. The judge has imposed the maximum sentence in this matter, which will ensure the defendant is not able to harm anyone else,” said Lauren DeMarco, spokesperson for the State’s Attorney’s Office.”
