Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a fire at a single family home on the 25300 block of Oak Drive in Damascus at approximately 12:30am Sunday.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, approximately 65 firefighters responded to the fire and were able to knock it down in 15-20 minutes. The fire originated in the garage/carport of the home and was caused by an electrical malfunction (freezer plugged into extension cord.) The fire extended to two vehicles that were parked outside as well as into the house. Damage is estimated to be ~$400,000. All occupants of the home were able to get out without any injuries, but three adults will be displaced.

Piringer tweeted, “occupant heard a loud noise coming from the garage, about same time smoke alarm activated, upon investigation, encountered thick smoke in area of garage/kitchen, everyone evacuated.”
