The flip from rain to snow started earlier than initially anticipated, allowing for heavier bursts of snow to accumulate even though ground temps were well above freezing. The precipitation also cooled things faster/more than anticipated, bringing temps to around freezing (or below) for many in the area.
Because of that, there was slushy accumulation in the area and the National Weather Service snowfall maps are offering the following totals for areas in the DMV and beyond:
• Westminster, MD: 3.5 inches
• Damascus, MD: 2.5 inches
• Gaithersburg, MD: 1.8 inches
• Germantown, MD: 1.5 inches
• Chantilly, VA: 1.5 inches
• Mt. Airy, MD: 1.3 inches
• Columbia, MD: 0.6 inches
• Arlington, VA: 0.2 inches
