DC Ranked 18th “Best Places for Christmas” in New Report

With spending over the winter holidays projected to reach record highs again this year, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2023’s Best Places for Christmas Celebrations to help consumers find the best cities to maximize their enjoyment with a minimal budget. Washington DC came in 18th.

To identify the most festive and affordable cities for Christmas celebrations, WalletHub compared the 100 biggest cities in the U.S. based on 28 key indicators such as traditions, shopping, and costs. DC and its suburbs had high rankings in the ‘generosity’ (#2) and ‘traditions & fun’ (#12) categories.

  • Miami has the most Christmas tree farms (per square root of the population), which is 24 times more than in Indianapolis, the city with the fewest.
  • Orlando, Florida, has the most gift shops (per square root of the population), which is 19.3 times more than in North Las Vegas, Nevada, the city with the fewest.
  • Los Angeles has the most toy stores (per square root of the population), which is 61.9 times more than in North Las Vegas, Nevada, the city with the fewest.
  • Seattle has the most food banks (per square root of population), which is 19.3 times more than in Boston, the city with the fewest.
