Fire Caused by Lithium-Ion Battery Causes $500,000 in Damage

Approximately 65 Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) firefighters responded to the 16,700blk of Alexander Manor Drive, off Ednor Road in Sandy Spring on Thursday, December 21 for the report of a house fire.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire, which was caused by a charging lithium-ion battery, started in the home’s garage and extended to attic. Three adults and two pets have been displaced and there were no injuries reported. Damage is estimated to be ~$500,000.

Piringer tweeted, “one (1) occupant was home at the time, smoke alarms activated & alerted them to the fire in the garage (they got out); neighbors called 911 & retrieved/rescued 2 dogs prior to @mcfrs arrival”
