Montgomery County Transportation Schedule for the Winter Holidays


Per MCDOT: “Below are the Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s (MCDOT) and regional partners’ transportation-related schedule changes for Christmas Eve, Sunday, Dec. 24 and Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25:

  • MCDOT offices – Will be closed Monday, Dec. 25.
  • Ride On bus service – Will operate on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 (until 10 p.m. on Dec. 24). View schedules here.
  • Flash US 29 Bus Rapid Transit – The Orange route will operate on a Weekend/Holiday schedule on Dec. 24 and 25. The Blue route (typically operating on weekday rush hour periods only) will not be in service on Dec. 24 and 25.
  • Ride On extRa and Flex bus service – Will not be in service on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25.
  • TRiPS Commuter Store at Silver Spring Transit Center – Will be open 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25.
  • TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store – Will not be in service on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25.
  • Parking at public garages, lots and curbside meters – Follow regular posted rates and restrictions on Dec. 24. Parking will be free on Dec. 25.
  • Metrorail – Will operate on a Sunday schedule from 7 a.m. to midnight on Dec. 24. Will operate on a Sunday Holiday schedule from 7 a.m. to midnight on Dec. 25. View timetables here. *A reminder of station closures on the Red Line from Dec. 18-30. Free shuttles will be provided.
    Due to Metrobus – Will operate on a Sunday schedule. View timetables here.
  • MARC Train – Will operate a regular weekend service on Dec. 24. Will not be in service on Dec. 25. Learn more at mta.maryland.gov/marc-holiday-service.
  • The Open Parkways program will be extended from Saturday, Dec. 23, through Monday, Jan. 1. During this time, parkways are open to pedestrians and bicyclists and closed to motor vehicles. This impacts: Beach Drive between Connecticut and Knowles Avenue (2.9 miles) from 7 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23, until 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 25; Sligo Creek Parkway between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road and between Forest Glen Road and University Boulevard West from 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, through 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 25; Little Falls Parkway between Arlington Road and Dorset Avenue (0.4 miles) will be open 24/7 for recreation and exercise.

 

Schedule changes for New Years Eve, Sunday. Dec. 31 and New Year’s Day, Monday, Jan. 1:

  • MCDOT offices – Will be closed.
