“Due to scheduled maintenance, Metrorail will shut down between Grosvenor and Shady Grove stations on Saturday, Dec. 9 through Sunday, Dec. 10.  Shady Grove, Rockville, Twinbrook and North Bethesda stations will be closed. WMATA will be providing express shuttles to/from Grosvenor and Shady Grove and local shuttles with service to all stations. (more…)

“The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is returning “Flash Lights” buses for the winter holiday season. Montgomery County residents and visitors can take in the roaming light display along Colesville Road/US 29 as five of the Flash Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses have been adorned with festive holiday lights. Per MCDOT: “On Tuesday, Dec. 5 starting at 7 p.m., the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold an in-person public meeting to present the plans for the Carroll Avenue Separated Bike Lanes project, which are currently at 35% design. The proposed design will provide one-way separated bike lanes on each side of Carroll Avenue from Merrimac Drive to University Boulevard and a two-way cycletrack on the east side of the street from University Boulevard to Piney Branch Road (MD 320) in the Takoma/Langley Crossroads area in Silver Spring. Per MCDOT: “The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold an in-person public forum on Tuesday, Dec. 5, starting at 6:30 p.m., to discuss the proposed changes to move bus Route 76 pick-up and drop-off location for Quince Orchard High School to one half block away to state Route 28 (Darnestown Road) as well as an extension of the route to the Crossvines in Poolesville for weekday rush hour trips. “Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and County Council President Evan Glass will join other elected officials, community leaders and the County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) for a “groundpainting” ceremony of dedicated bus lanes to kick off Phase 1 of the Great Seneca Transit Network at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the Traville Parkway Transit Center in Rockville. The Traville Parkway Transit Center is located next to the Universities at Shady Grove. Following the ceremonies, speakers will paint a sectioned-off portion of roadway red to highlight the dedicated bus lanes involved in portions of the project.  (more…)

“The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) and the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) have activated a “Holiday Task Force” to detect impaired drivers. Considering the start of the holiday season typically sees an increase in the number of fatal alcohol-related crashes, MCPD will establish sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols throughout the Thanksgiving to New Year’s holiday period.
