A couple months back, the Gaithersburg City Council approved the annexation of the Walnut Hill shopping center, which paved the way for Aldi to move in to part of the old grocery store space and a new Sheetz to be built. Aldi will be taking over a little more than half of the space that was previously home to Weis and now a new tenant has signed on to take over the remaining space as a junior anchor.
Concentra, a nationwide leader occupational medicine, has signed on to provides occupational health services to employees, which includes injury care, physical therapy, drug testing, physical exams, urgent care and preventive wellness programs. Currently, Concentra has location a couple miles way on Russell Ave in Gaithersburg. It is unclear at this time whether that location will be affected upon the opening of the Walnut Hill shopping center location.
The Annexation Plan proposes several changes to the existing Walnut Hill Shopping Center in addition to Aldi, Sheetz, and Concentra, including demolishing an existing small freestanding building on the south side of the property, renovating the exterior of the main shopping center building, and making improvements to the parking lot and landscaping.
