At approximately 7:30pm on Wednesday evening, a bus was driven into a house on Fairland Rd. in Fairland. There were no passengers on the bus and no injuries were sustained. At this time, it’s unclear why the crash occurred, but the bus involved is the same bus that crashed into a KFC restaurant more than 10 years ago.

In 2011, the same bus crashed into a KFC on Georgia Avenue at Urbana Drive in Glenmont. Ride On fleet records indicate the involved bus came to Ride On in 2009, and was manufactured by Gillig in California. Police on the scene of the 2011 crash said they believed the driver passed out at the wheel and lost control of the bus this morning around 7:30 am. It was later revealed that he suffered a medical emergency. The KFC was not open at the time, although the manager was in the back of the building. The bus driver and one passenger were transported to a hospital with minor, non-life threatening injuries.

Ride On buses are not assigned to any specific drivers or even depots, and are routinely rotated throughout the County. The specific number of Ride On buses from 2009 still in revenue service was not immediately available, though some have already been retired.

The same bus’ involvement in both collisions was first reported by Twitter/X user @terrioutsold
