MCPD: When To Call 911 vs. Non-Emergency Number

The Montgomery County Police Department posted on social media that it is expecting higher call volumes during the New Year’s weekend and has included a cheat sheet on when to call 911 vs. the non-emergency police number.

Avcording to police, “On Christmas Eve, 9-1-1 received 893 calls for service from 6:30 p.m. – 2:30 a.m. (on Christmas Day). The daily average for calls for service is 1800 calls. Many of these calls were for fireworks and noise complaints. Fireworks are illegal in Montgomery County, but remember to use your discretion and call the non-emergency number.

Calling 9-1-1 for non-emergency calls pulls officers from priority calls.  Remember, only call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency and use (301) 279-8000 for non-emergencies.” Below is a cheat sheet provided by police on when to call 911 vs. the non-emergency number.
