Earlier today, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Watch for parts of the area on Saturday (Frederick County, half of Loudoun County, Washington County and more areas north and west). The NWS followed it up with its latest maps for snowfall totals in the area.
Less than an inch of snow is expected for DC, Fairfax County, Prince George’s County, and more than half of Montgomery County. The Germantown area is expected to get about an inch and then places like Clarksburg and Damascus in Montgomery County join half of Frederick County in the 2-3 inch range. Areas like the northern half of Frederick County and Washington county could see 3-4 inches based on the map above.
Below you’ll see the “Reasonable Worst Case” map, which has about a 10% chance of happening. It includes an inch of snow in DC, Northern Prince George’s County, and Bethesda/Silver Spring in Montgomery County. Areas like Rockville and Gaithersburg fall under the 2 inch category and then upper Montgomery County is in the 3 inch portion of that map.
We’ll continue to update with the latest information as it comes in. The NWS has stated that “Additions to the watch or issuance of warnings and/or advisories are likely Friday. ”
