Thursday Morning Update on Potential Winter Weather This Saturday

The National Weather Service (NWS) released an update on Thursday morning regarding the winter weather expected in the area on Saturday.

Per the NWS: “Wintry weather expected across much of the region Saturday-Saturday night. The greatest impacts from snow & ice appear to be in areas along & west of the Blue Ridge with moderate to heavy rain reducing totals further east.”

In the update, they released an “expected snowfall” map and a “reasonable worst case” snow map. The expected snowfall map shows under an inch for DC, most of Fairfax County, all of Prince George’s County, and places like Bethesda and Silver Spring in Montgomery County. Central Montgomery County (Rockville/Gaithersburg) and most of Howard County are in the 1-2 inch range, while upper Montgomery County, most of Loudoun, and most of Frederick County are in the 2-3 inch range.

The reasonable worst case map has about a 10% chance at occurring and adds about an inch of snow to the totals mentioned above. The GFS is hanging on to the “higher” totals, while the Euro has taken most of the snow away for the area. We are two days out with a little room for change, but this one is looking to be a disappointment for snow lovers- especially anyone who was hoping for any potential disruption to schools on Monday.
