NBC4 Releases Snowfall Forecast For Saturday Storm

NBC4 has released its snowfall forecast for the storm headed our way on Saturday. With the storm now about 24 hours away, the maps shouldn’t change too much going forward.

Remember that each map that’s released is like looking at the score of the game. The score changes as the game continues and while the score at the beginning of the game can let you know how the game is going, it doesn’t mean it’ll end up that way. Think of this as the score in the 4th quarter (approaching the end of the game).

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect on Saturday for parts of the area, including all of Frederick County, all of Carroll County, and half of Loudoun County. As of 7:30am on Friday morning, Montgomery County, DC, Howard County, Fairfax County, and Prince George’s County are not yet under an advisory, though it’s very possible for one to be issued later today for some of the area.

Winter precipitation is expected to begin Saturday morning, likely as snow as it moves into the area. It will start to mix and then eventually turn to rain on Saturday afternoon. About two thirds of Montgomery County is in NBC4’s coating to 1-inch range, with the upper third of the county in the 1-3 inch range.

Roads can certainly be slick on Saturday morning while the snow/mix is falling, but should wash out as everything turns to rain later on Saturday. Nighttime will bring wet roads and if temperatures dip overnight into Sunday, we can see more slick spots Sunday morning. This will not have an impact on schools this Monday.
