Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories Issued for the Area

The National Weather Service (NWS) has now issued Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories for many counties in the area.

The Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Frederick, Washington, and Carroll counties, while an advisory has been issued for NW Montgomery, NW Loudoun, and NW Howard counties.

Per the NWS, the Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 10am Saturday morning until 10pm Saturday night. Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, with the highest amounts along, and north and west of the Catoctin Mountains and Parr’s Ridge. Ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch, with amounts of up to one-quarter of an inch possible along and east of the Catoctin Mountains. Precipitation is expected to begin as snow between 10 AM and 1 PM. The snow will mix with and then change to sleet and freezing rain between 1 PM and 4 PM along and east of the Catoctin Mountains. Precipitation may mix with sleet elsewhere after 4 PM, before ending during the mid evening.

Per the NWS, the Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10am Saturday morning until 10pm Saturday night. Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Plan on slippery road conditions. Precipitation is expected to begin as snow between 10 AM and 1 PM. The snow will change to freezing rain and then rain between 1 PM and 4 PM, before ending during the mid evening.
