Bao Bei at 11910 Parklawn Dr #O in Rockville has announced it will close on January 17 to take part in a reality tv food competition.
The restaurant made the announcement Sunday afternoon on Instagram: “Bao Bei fam, we have been invited to participate in a food competition (cannot disclose details yet) and will be closed from January 17th – TBD. It hurts having to leave for even a little bit of time, but we’re excited and will come back better than ever! Wish us luck and we will see you soon. WE WILL STILL BE OPEN THIS UPCOMING WEEK SO COME EAT BAOS WHILE YOU CAN!” The restaurant could potentially remain closed until February 28, depending on how long it lasts in the competition.
Bao Bia is a “ghost kitchen” that is owned and operated by Gaithersburg native, Kevin Hsieh. Its menu consists of Baos, Rice bowls and side dishes, with the signature item being the Pork Belly Bao (slow-braised pork belly inside fluffy handmade buns) and is available for pickup and delivery.
Last month the restaurant was featured in the Washington Post’s ’10 Best DC-Area Casual Restaurants of 2023′ list.
