Ekó House to Close in Rockville Town Square; Restaurant Will Look For New Location

Ekó House, located at 150 Gibbs St. in Rockville Town Square, will be closing on Sunday, January 14th. The restaurant took over the space that was previously home to Bar Louie and has been open for approximately two years. Per their statement, shared via the restaurant’s social media, they will be looking for a new space to continue operating. Full statement below:

“Greetings to our wonderful Ekó House community,

Ekó House was born out of a passion to celebrate the richness of our African culture with everyone in the DMV area through food, music, and art. We’re ecstatic that over the past two years, we not only successfully brought this vision to life, but also served as a beacon of joy and created a haven that welcomed Africans and enthusiasts of African culture, from the DMV and beyond.

As we reflect on our achievements, it is with mixed emotions that we share the news of the temporary pause in our operations at our Rockville location, effective Sunday, January 14th, 2024. Unfortunately, due to some misalignment with our landlord on the path forward, taking this step has become necessary.

Though disheartening, we view it as a momentary pause in our journey. The past two years have been filled with joy, learning, growth, and the forging of meaningful connections.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to each one of you who have been a part of our Ekó House family – your encouragement, patronage, and support (online and physical) have been the driving force behind all the successes we’ve achieved.

Thank you for making Ekó House a true Pan-African destination in the DMV. Your support means the world to us. A new chapter awaits us, and we are excited about the future.

We are actively working on announcing our new location soon, so we ask for your patience and support during this transition. We look forward to continuing this incredible journey together!

Warm regards,

Èkó House Owners, Yomi Ajao and Francis Odias”
