“Enhanced Winter Storm Threat” For Tuesday; Light Snow That Can Certainly Impact Schools

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Wind Advisory for most of the area that goes from 10am until 5pm today. We are also in the “Enhanced Winter Storm Threat” category for Tuesday. The chance for snow squalls today has dissipated, but it’s still possible some areas could see some bursts.

For today (Sunday), per the NWS: “West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected in portions of central, north central, northeast and northern Maryland, The District of Columbia and northern and northwest Virginia. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. West winds with quickly increase in strength as a strong Arctic cold front moves through during the late morning to early afternoon hours. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.”

As of right now (Sunday morning), models seem to be agreeing that light snow will come into the area Monday into Tuesday. The models are showing a widespread 1-3 inch type of situation. The cold is in place, so snow could certainly stick and cause disruptions. If two or three inches fall into Tuesday morning (and it’s still snowing), disruptions to schools are very possible. We’ll continue to update!
