The National Weather Service (NWS) released its first expected snowfall map for the winter storm threat late Monday into Tuesday.
According to the map, much of the area is in the 3-4 inch range. That includes all of Montgomery County, DC, Prince George’s County, Fairfax County, and Howard County. About half of Frederick and London counties are split between 3-4″ and 2-3″.
Below, FOX5’s Mike Thomas shows the snow forecasts from different models (Euro, GFS, and FOX5’s Futurecast), which shows a range of about 1-3 inches for most areas. Because of the cold temperatures, any snow that does fall will likely stick. The timing could impact the morning commute and even longer if it continues into Tuesday afternoon. We’ll continue to update, with our pencil prediction for schools coming tonight or tomorrow morning.
Afternoon runs of all the major weather models for the DC region for Tuesday's event. Most are 1-3" with some locally higher.
