A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for much of the area with snow expected to enter the region shortly before sunrise and continue throughout the day.
Approximately 1-3 inches of snow is expected across the area. Per the National Weather Service (NWS): “Quick moving low pressure is expected to bring snow to the region Friday. Snow will enter western MD & eastern WV between 1-3am before spreading east toward I-81 3-5am. Snow overspreads the metros 4-7am. With below freezing temps expect slick travel for the Friday AM commute.”
Montgomery County Public Schools have communicated to principals that if inclement weather closes schools on Fridays it will not be a Code Purple (Virtual Learning) day. That means that if schools are closed, it would be a regular “snow day” that would put the county over the two built-in days.
NBC4’s Chuck Bell wrote the following in an update earlier today, “Not a major winter storm. Most of our viewing area will be in the coating to 3″ range. Snow begins before sunrise so school delays/cancellations LIKELY.” We’re gonna take a look at afternoon runs of a few weather models and a Pencil Prediction for school closings and delays will be out this evening.
