Growing up I remember Waiter on The Way– a company that would allow you to place an order with a restaurant and deliver it to your home. The company was founded in 1989 and is headquartered in Gaithersburg- it’s still around today!
Though UberEats, DoorDash, GrubHub and others have taken over the food delivery game, I recently learned that a company I first learned about in the early 90s is still making deliveries. Waiter on The Way was founded in 1989 and is still based locally in Gaithersburg, MD. I became familiar with them growing up in the early 90s when a family friend’s restaurant, Tippy’s Taco House, offered their services in Gaithersburg.
The company currently works with over 40 restaurants, primarily in Montgomery County, but also has 15+ in Frederick County. They don’t have an app (as far as we can see), but orders can be placed via phone or through their website and are delivered to your home. The company has also pivoted to include “Cater on the Way”, delivering catering to offices and homes.
301 Delivery, another local delivery company, was founded in January 2020 in Germantown. The local food delivery service served the Germantown, Gaithersburg, and Rockville MD areas. We deliver your favorite restaurants right to your door, while allowing restaurants to keep all their profits!” Currently, they are listed as being temporarily closed on Google and their website.
