Loyalty Bookstores will be moving its Silver Spring store location, currently on 823 Ellsworth Drive in Downtown Silver Spring, to open on 923 Gist Avenue in partnership with Bump n’ Grind Coffee’s Analog Market.

The book store’s last day on Ellsworth Dr. will be February 4th, with the first day on Gist Ave. on February 8th. Per Loyalty Bookstores: “Loyalty is a Black, Asian, and Queer-owned independent bookstore that aims to create an inclusive, welcoming environment and provide diverse books, unique gifts, and innovative programming that center BIPOC, Queer, and marginalized voices. With a combined book-industry experience of 17 years, co-owners Hannah Oliver Depp and Christine Bollow have worked to grow a store dedicated to creating a community for readers, authors and writers in these marginalized communities.

Beginning February 8th, Loyalty will open its store and offices at 923 Gist Avenue, occupying the upper floor and part of the ground floor at Bump n’ Grind’s Analog Market. For the following three months, the Analog Market space will undergo a renovation, improving the space in order to feature other small businesses and independent makers.

Loyalty Bookstores will be open for its normal hours* throughout this renovation and will expand within the space after renovations are complete. Loyalty is excited to grow its offerings in this new space and will continue to be a prominent local source for a diverse, thoughtfully curated selection of books, stationery and gifts, and programming.

Bump & Grind’s Analog Market is a community-driven hub for makers and vendors, connected to many small businesses in the Silver Spring area and beyond. This new space will connect Loyalty Bookstores with even more of their esteemed neighbors, increase our space for hosting author events, community programming, and support their goals for growth in 2024 and beyond.

“Our time in Downtown Silver Spring has been wonderful, but with book margins being what they are, the onus has been on survival, rather than community and growth. We’re so grateful for our last three years on Ellsworth during an incredibly difficult time for small businesses and the world. We’re looking forward to growing in our mission and in our community a bit more off the beaten path with Bump & Grind,” says
co-owner and buyer Hannah Oliver Depp.

This transition will occur on the heels of a successful fundraiser at the end of 2023, and is part of a larger plan of growth and expansion for both Loyalty Bookstores locations. In addition to this move, Loyalty will be developing and growing their unique event formats, creating new community partnerships, and debuting their Bookmobile to offer under-represented books to underserved areas of the DMV following
the finished remodel of Bump n’ Grind! Loyalty is honored and grateful to be a part of the wonderful extended neighborhood in Silver Spring and looks forward to welcoming both their valued long-time customers and new neighbors into their new
space!
