Maryland Secretary of State Susan C. Lee wrote a letter to state election officials stating that former President Donald Trump will join Nikki Haley on the Republican primary ballot on May 14th for the 2024 Presidential election in the state of Maryland.

Colorado and Maine have both disqualified former President Trump, pending a review by the U.S. Supreme Court. Lee wrote that Maryland law requires that the Secretary of State certify for the primary ballot only those Presidential candidates who are “generally advocated or recognized in the news media throughout the United States or in Maryland”. The full letter can be seen below:

“Dear Mr. DeMarinis, Maryland law requires that the Secretary of State certify for the primary ballot only those Presidential candidates who are “generally advocated or recognized in the news media throughout the United States or in Maryland” (Md. Code, Election Law, Sec. 8-502 (c) (2)).

In accordance with Maryland law and in consultation with legal counsel, I hereby certify to the State Board of Elections under and by virtue of the authority vested in me by Section 8-502 of the Election Law Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland the names of the following Presidential candidates for nomination by the principal political parties for the May 14, 2024 primary election.

These candidates are to be included on the 2024 Democratic and Republican Presidential primary ballots in Maryland:

Democratic Party: Joe Biden of Delaware, Dean Phillips of Minnesota, Marianne Williamson of Washington, DC

Republican Party: Nikki Haley of South Carolina, Donald J. Trump of Florida

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I hereunto set my hand and have caused to be affixed the Official Seal of the Secretary of State at Annapolis, Maryland, this 22d day of January in the year Two Thousand Twenty-Four.

Susan C. Lee

Maryland Secretary of State”
