GolfPass, a membership-based subscription program by NBC Sports and Rory McIlroy which offers “opportunities to play more golf, comprehensive tools to improve a golfer’s game, high-quality video content, and enhanced shopping and travel experiences”, has come out with its list of the 50 best public golf courses in the country and one nearby Maryland course was ranked 6th.
Worthington Manor Golf Club opened at 8329 Fingerboard Rd. in Urbana back in 1998. Your visit to the golf course just a few miles outside of MoCo would begin with a view of the 19th century clubhouse, picturesque country setting, rolling valleys, scenic wetlands, superb conditioned bentgrass tees, fairways and greens, and come with 10-minute tee time intervals.
This Ault-Clark signature course is notably one of the Mid-Atlantic’s premier daily-fee golf clubs. A frequent U.S. Open Qualifying site with numerous accolades ranging from “Best Courses You Can Play” Golfweek to “Middle Atlantic’s 50 Best Courses” GolfStyles.
Per the golf club, “From the time you are welcomed at the bag drop, you’ll enjoy the first-class practice facilities and prestigious championship golf course. With 10-minute tee time intervals you’ll be sure to enjoy a relaxing well-paced round of golf. After your round relax at BAR19 with one of our famous grilled burgers and a cold beverage. Come play Worthington Manor and see for yourself why the USGA chooses us to host its local events year after year.”
According to GolfPass, their Golfers’ Choice lists are a bit more holistic in scope and consider the perspectives of everyday golfers- more than 800,000 of them so far, to determine the golf experiences that resonate most.
While course design and conditioning play roles in these rankings, GolfPass asks golfers to also consider other factors, from value to off-course amenities to service, when they submit a review. GolfPass states that as a result of the comprehensive reviews they receive, their lists look quite different from the ones you can buy at newsstands. “They come from a different point of view, and we are thrilled that they tend to highlight dozens of accessible, affordable local courses that other media outlets simply overlook.”
Of the 17,000 golf courses in the United States, 5,049 of them received at least one review on GolfPass, making them eligible for GolfPass’ various state and regional lists. 3,303 of those courses received at least 10 reviews, making them eligible for their flagship Golfers’ Choice list: The Top 50 U.S. Golf Courses.
