Francesca’s to Close Rio Location

Francesca’s, a nationwide chain of fashion and accessories boutiques based out of Texas, will close its Rio location in Gaithersburg on Saturday, February 3rd.

An employee confirmed the impending closure and told us that a sign has been placed in the window of the store to let customers know. The last remaining Francesca’s in Montgomery County will be the Montgomery Mall location. The Bethesda Row location closed in 2020 and the Pike & Rose location closed in 2019.

In 2020, the chain of boutiques voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, with plans to sell the business, including its brick-and-mortar stores. They were able to work their way out of bankruptcy and restructured operations and business. Last year the chain acquired the 13-year-old digitally native brand Richer Poorer, making it a wholly owned subsidiary of Francesca’s.

A replacement for the boutique is expected to be announced soon.
