Additional Construction at Wawa Gaithersburg; Opening Date Pushed Back Per Google

Additional construction is taking place at Wawa’s first Montgomery County location at 405 S Frederick Ave (355) in Gaithersburg (photos below).

The upcoming convenience store/gas station is located at the site of the old Becraft Antiques, across from Gaithersburg High School. We received word in November that representatives from the store shared an early January opening date with Gaithersburg High School, but that has come and gone. We stopped by on January 31st to see additional construction taking place and now Google lists “March” as an opening timeframe.

Wawa usually holds a grand opening event when the convenience store is preparing to open a new location with the date of the celebration shared on the official Wawa website. That has not yet been shared, so the March (or later) timeframe appears to be accurate.

We originally reported the news of MoCo’s first Wawa back in May of 2019, with initial plans to open by the end of 2020. It has been nearly five years since Wawa has signed on, but that hasn’t deterred them from doing business in Montgomery County- they’ve submitted an application for a second Montgomery County Wawa.
