Okaeri Japanese Cafe is Coming Soon to Rockville

Okaeri Japanese Cafe, which means “Welcome Home” in Japanese, is coming soon to the Shops at Congressional Village in Rockville.

Okaeri will be taking the space that was previously home to Eerkins Uygher Cuisine at 1701 Rockville Pike # B1. Eerkins closed following a kitchen fire in May 2022 and reopened in a different Rockville location in March 2023.

Okaeri Japanese Cafe has an existing location in Centreville. The cafe offers traditional Japanese bites and desserts, from fruit sandwiches to Onigiri to Dorayaki (Japanese sweet-filled pancakes) and more. An opening date is not available, but signage is up in the windows that states the restaurant is “opening soon.”

The multi-tenant retail shopping center known as The Shops At Congressional Village, a one/story commercial building and a leasehold interest on the first floor of 192 Halpine Rd in Rockville went for $44 million at an auction on Wednesday, October 12th, 2022.

The auction was won by the IVEA restaurant group (who owns local restaurants like Gyuzo BBQ, Gong Cha, The Spot, Kyoto Matcha, Lao Sze Chuan, and more) and Chicago-based Windfall Group LLC who we are told plans to add additional restaurants to the shopping center. The Shops at Congressional Village is currently home to 7-Eleven, Armand’s Pizza, Mosaic, and Goldfish Swim School, and more.
