Kanpai BBQ and Shabu Shabu Buffet is coming soon to the Shops at Congressional Village in Rockville.
- Kanpai, which offers southeast Asian bbq at your table and Shabu Shabu buffet, is coming soon to the Shops at Congressional Village shopping center in Rockville. With Shabu Shabu, you’ll be given plates of meat, vegetables and other items (dumplings and udon, for example) to cook in the broth rather than a pre-loaded broth.
There is a Kanpai BBQ & Shabu that opened in San Diego, but it is unclear at this time if the two restaurants are related. Construction appears to have begun inside. We’ll have additional information as we receive it.
The IVEA restaurant group (who owns local restaurants like Gyuzo BBQ, Gong Cha, The Spot, Kyoto Matcha, Lao Sze Chuan, and more) and Chicago-based Windfall Group LLC bought the shopping center in an auction in 2022 for $44 million. At that time, we were told there were plans to add additional restaurants to the shopping center. It looks to be the case.
