A Winter Storm Watch has been issued as close as Frederick County for the storm that’s expected to bring mainly rain to the area with a changeover to snow possible on Monday night into Tuesday morning.
The Winter Storm Watch is in effect from late Monday night into Tuesday afternoon for Frederick, Carroll, and other northern MD counties. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), “heavy snow possible with total snow accumulations around 5 inches possible.”
More from the NWS: “Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Rain is expected to change to snow between 5 AM and 7 AM. Snow may be heavy at times, with rates of up to 1 inch per hour through mid morning Tuesday. Visibility may be reduced to less than one half mile at times. The combination of wet snow and gusty winds could lead to downed trees and power lines, resulting in isolated power outages.”
As of Monday morning, Montgomery County may also see a changeover to snow, but it’s far less likely that any snow will accumulate due to the warm ground and the temps being above freezing. If snow falls fast enough, accumulation is possible. Right now, wet roads are most likely for MoCo, but it’s possible some spots get slick. We’ll keep an eye on things for the area.
