A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 3am Tuesday morning until 1pm Tuesday afternoon for upper Montgomery County. The Winter Storm Watch is now an Advisory for much of upper Maryland, including Frederick County.
For the advisory area in upper Montgomery County, including areas like Germantown, Clarksburg, Damascus and Poolesville, the National Weather Service (NWS) expects total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. Further north in Frederick County, 2-4 inches of snow is expected with as much as 5 inches possible.
Per the NWS, “Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Rain is expected to change to snow between
5 AM and 7 AM. Snow will be heavy at times, with rates of around 1/2 to 1 inch per hour through mid-morning Tuesday. Visibility may be reduced to less than one half mile at times. Slow down and use caution while traveling. When venturing outside, watch your first few steps taken on steps, sidewalks, and driveways, which could be icy and slippery,
increasing your risk of a fall and injury.”
As with previous storms this winter, things have trended towards a snowier solution as we get closer to the storm. This one is a bit different, as the snow would come on the back end and we don’t usually do well with that. It is certainly worth monitoring, specifically because its supposed to fall during the Tuesday morning commute. We’ll have a pencil prediction for Tuesday, February 13th out later this evening or tonight.
