The Montgomery Parks Foundation has announced five grants, totaling $85,000, that will be awarded to Montgomery Parks to support a variety of programs and projects in the county. Grants will support initiatives including art and special programming for seniors and teens.

“The Foundation greatly appreciates the support of its donors which enables us to provide funding for these exciting and important initiatives,” said Katie Rictor, executive director of the Montgomery Parks Foundation. “We know park visitors and program participants will really enjoy the new amenities and opportunities afforded by these grants.” Grants will be awarded for the following initiatives:

  • Art in the Parks: A new mural will be created and installed on the Park Activity Building in Glenmont Local Park in Silver Spring.
  • Oak Tree Carvings: Artists will transform and preserve two oak trees into works of art.
  • Enhanced Senior Programming: New programming will be developed and offered to people 55+.
  • Trail Ambassadors Program: This grant supports an ongoing program that introduces young people to the parks’ trail system and mountain biking.
  • Teen Program: Funding will support a new internship program, Teens Engaged in Environmental Stewardship (T.E.E.N.S) to introduce high school students to green careers.

Grant recipients have one year to execute the projects. Visit the Montgomery Parks Foundation website for more information about the foundation and opportunities to support Montgomery Parks initiatives. Projects supported by these grants are made possible through generous donations from park supporters.
