MCEA Communicates to Teachers That Monday, April 22 Will Be The Snow Day Make-Up Date (Asynchronous Learning For Students)

Updated to include the date of the MCEA email to teachers

The Montgomery County teacher’s union, Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA), shared with MCPS teachers that Monday, April 22nd has been identified as the snow day make-up day for the school system.

Per an email sent by MCEA to MCPS teachers this week (Monday, February 12th), “after
discussion and continued advocacy by MCEA for a sensible approach to the make-up snow day, the feasibility of the following was discussed and subsequently approved by the Board of Education on February 7:

  • Monday, April 22 as the make-up day,
  • Asynchronous learning for students,
  • A 2-hour asynchronous professional learning requirement with a flexible due date,
  • Self-directed professional learning and planning for the remainder of the workday.”

Asynchronous learning for students does not require the students to attend school, but allows them to learn/work at their own pace from home. The day was previously a professional day for teachers with no school for students. MCPS has not made an official announcement regarding the make-up day.
