
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a house struck by lightning on Gentry Ln, near Crossmeadow Ln, in Brookeville on Thursday evening.
According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, a two-story house was struck by lightning and all occupants were able to get out safely with smoke coming from the basement of the home.
In an update, Piringer stated the a lightning strike in front of the house caused an electrical surge and likely an explosion in the basement. The lightning struck in the area of the driveway, which was the surge pathway into the home. There was some structural damage to the house (foundation wall) due to concussive effects, but no fire was evident (only a light haze of smoke).
Five occupants were displaced all without injury. BGE secured power to the home and the building inspector was notified. Photos below:
