In December we let you know about Poolesville High School English teacher Melissa Adams hosting a tea party for her AP Literature classes in the Media Center at the school. Adams is also the organizer of a Literature March Madness tournament that has gained popularity in the school in recent years.
It started with just her classes, but has spread around to the point that even the Poolesville High School staff members participate. Students and staff get a week to nominate their favorite books, then vote on the top 32. Adams then seeds the books based on the number of votes they received. Each week is a different round of voting, and by spring break a winner is crowned.
Previous winners include Harry Potter, The Lord of the Flies, Good night Moon, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. “March Madness” started a little early this year because of spring break starting on March 22. You can follow along here.
