Board of Education Opts to Fully Fund Montgomery Virtual Academy For FY25


The Montgomery County Board of Education held a public hearing regarding the future of the MCPS Virtual Academy program (and others) on Tuesday, Fenruary 20th and made the decision to fund the full program for FY25.

The Board previously announced it is considering making modifications to or eliminating the MCPS Virtual Academy (also known as the Montgomery Virtual Academy or MVA), which was funded through the use of the ESSER grant during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program’s Parent Teacher Council has started a petition in support of the program.

After the meeting, the Board of Education shared the following regards the Virtual Academy, “In response to community advocacy about the Montgomery Virtual Academy and its value in providing a safe and secure learning environment for some MCPS students, the Board opted to continue to fund the full program for FY25. However, they have asked the administration to analyze the elementary school offerings this coming year and emphasized their commitment to phasing out this part of the program.”
