On Monday afternoon, the Washington Capitals organized an engaging hockey clinic for fifth-grade students at Rolling Terrace Elementary School (705 Bayfield St. Takoma Park, MD).

The clinic aimed to introduce kids, especially those new to the sport, to hockey by offering free access. Throughout the event, students received instruction on fundamental skills such as stickhandling, passing, and shooting.

Jennifer Rushin, a physical education content specialist at MCPS, highlighted that this opportunity enabled students to apply the skills and concepts learned in class. She emphasized that the clinic provided students with one-on-one guidance from supervisors, allowing them to gain a better understanding and appreciation for the sport (per MCPS).

Rushin expressed the primary goal of exposing students to hockey and providing them with a more affordable option to participate in the future. Charles Silberman, a physical education teacher at Rolling Terrace, shared this sentiment, stating, “By bringing the Capitals out here, we hope that they’ll get excited and they’ll make a connection with it, and they’ll want to pursue it and try some hockey on their own.”
