Los Chorros Celebrates 35-Year Anniversary

Los Chorros Restaurant, located at 2420 Blueridge Ave., has been servicing the Wheaton area since 1989. This month the restaurant is celebrating its 35th anniversary.

Los Chorros opened in February 1989, when Pedro and Reina Lazo decided to open their own restaurant after 12 years of experience in the Mexican and Salvadorian food industry. According to the restaurant’s website, they wanted to literally start a “mom and pop” restaurant that would service the Wheaton, Maryland area. They wanted to maintain an authentic taste and at home feel.  This legacy has been handed over to their two sons, Omar and Jason Lazo.  The Lazo’s strive to keep the same level or quality of food and service that has made Los Chorros a staple in the Wheaton/Silver Spring community.

Los Chorros began as a 75 person carry-out style restaurant and in the winter of 1995 expanded into the adjacent location. After a three-month total renovation, the restaurant would now sit 175 and house a full bar. “It’s been nothing but success since 1989, with several good reviews, including The Washington Post and Washingtonian Magazine, AOL City Guide, and The Gazette.”
