
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue services (MCFRS) responded to the 2900blk of Collins Ave in Wheaton at approximately 4:45am on Friday, March 1, after a large tree fell through a single-family house.
According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the sleeping occupants were awakened and able to self rescue with their pets. There is significant damage to the home, as well as a nearby utility pole/power lines.
There are no reported injuries and the Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
Montgomery County Police tweeted the following at 7:26am: ” TRAFFIC ADVISORY: A large fallen tree has the following roads closed:
Dawson Ave. between Blueridge Ave. and Newport Mill Rd.
Collins Ave. between Parker Ave. and Ivydale St.
Drivers are advised to seek an alternative route. Expect significant delays in those areas.”
