Pizza Hut is returning to the Briggs Chaney Shopping Center, opening a new location at the Briggs Chaney Center (13884 Old Columbia Pike). The pizza chain previously had a larger, freestanding location in the shopping center for many years before it closed in 2017. The building was demolished and a new Popeyes restaurant opened in its place in 2021.
The new Pizza Hut location is a smaller version than traditional Pizza Hut locations of the past- focusing solely on carry out and delivery orders. AN opening date is not yet available, but other similar locations nearby have opened fairly quickly, so we don’t expect too long of a wait. The new Pizza Hut locations in Germantown, Rockville, and Silver Spring all follow the same model.
Most of the new Pizza Hut restaurants still bring the charm of the 80s with the retro lamps hanging inside the carry-out/delivery spot. In September 2021, David Gibbs (CEO of Pizza Hut parent company Yum Brands), told investors, “We closed a lot of the dine-in stores that didn’t belong on the portfolio over the last 18 months in the United States,” according to a transcript on the financial services site Sentieo. “But for the most part, the stores we have in the portfolio now are good, long-term stores.”
