Takoma Park Middle School won first place in the 2024 Real Food for Kids Culinary Challenge. Takoma Park was the only MCPS school to compete this year; it was their fifth time winning first place in the last six years.

They also won the Community Choice for the lunch category. Students presented the following meal: paneer grilled cheese with sweet chili aioli and coriander chutney, oven-baked fries with masala seasoning, vegetable dal and sugar-free mango chutney. They came in ahead of two schools from Fairfax County, who received second and third place.

Teams were asked to create healthy and tasty menu items that meet USDA guidelines and adhere to strict per-meal budgets.
