“Peak Bloom” Announced by National Park Service; Cooler Week Ahead

PEAK BLOOM! PEAK BLOOM! PEAK BLOOM! Did we say PEAK BLOOM?! The blossoms are opening & putting on a splendid spring spectacle. See you soon.”  That was the announcement made by the National Park Service on Sunday, March 17th.

While warmer temperatures may have led us to earlier-than-normal “peak bloom”, the temperatures this week may be just a little less than ideal for heading down to the Tidal Basin to enjoy the view.

Monday and Tuesday will bring plenty of sunshine, but temperatures will only make it up to around 50°. Wednesday will be the warmest day of the workweek, with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures pushing 60°. Thursday will be sunny, but much cooler, with temps only making it to the upper 40s, and Friday is looking to be cloudy with temperatures reaching the mid 50s. As of now, the weekend is looking like we’ll get to the upper 50s both days.

Cherry trees across the county are already in bloom and more are expected to open in the coming days. Several Montgomery Parks offer prime blossom viewing opportunities, if you’re not interested in traveling to DC:

Avenel Local Park
Brookdale Neighborhood Park
Brookside Gardens
Fairland Recreational Park
Martin Luther King Jr. Recreational Park
Nike Missile Local Park
Rosemary Hills-Lyttonsville Local Park
South Germantown Recreational Park
Strawberry Knoll Local Park
