Update: Incident Commanders Believe Fire Consumed Approximately 60 Acres on Wednesday

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a large brush fire (including grass and trees) in the area of Old Hundred Rd, Barnesville Rd., Conoy Rd., W Old Baltimore Rd., and Peachtree Rd. in the Barnesville area at approximately 5pm on Wednesday evening.

According to MCFRS Chief spokesperson Pete Piringer, fire department activity closed Old Hundred Rd. for several hours into Wednesday night, but the road has since reopened.

Piringer stated that the brush fire was likely started by a downed power line and spread due to the high winds. Approximately 65 firefighters responded to the fire by 6pm and the fire was about 85% contained by 7pm. There were no injuries, but incident commanders believe that the fire consumed approximately 60 acres with damage to one shed.
